How to unprivate TikTok videos and make them public again

Published: · Last revised:

TikTok does not use the word “unprivate”, but it is what people type, and it describes a real thing: taking a post set to Only you and putting it back in front of everybody.

You can. That is the short answer, and it is why privacy beats deletion as a cleanup move. Post visibility is a setting, so you can flip a post to Only you today and back to Everyone in March. The video keeps its comments, its likes and its view count the whole time. With deleting, your window to change your mind is whatever Recently deleted gives you, and after that there is nothing left to reconsider.

What comes back, and what does not

The post comes back, and so do its numbers. Your old audience does not.

A video that spent four months at Only you becomes public again when you change its audience. TikTok does not promise that it will regain its earlier reach. Results may vary, so do not rely on a privacy change to restore a video’s earlier performance.

The job-search case, in reverse

The most common reason to unprivate is that whatever made you go private is over. You hid four years of posts before interviews. You got the job. Six months later nobody is checking, and some of those videos were good.

The reversal is the part people never plan for, and by hand it costs the same as the first pass: open the post, menu, privacy, Everyone, back out, repeat. If it took an evening to hide them, it takes an evening to bring them back. Unless you do it in one selection.

In FixMyTok you filter the library to Private, select the whole batch, hit Make Public and confirm once. Same tool, opposite direction, and the app skips whatever is already public instead of counting it. The filter is what makes this bearable. You do not have to remember which posts you hid, because filtering by visibility shows you exactly the set that is Only you right now. Pick all of them, or narrow to a year and bring back one era at a time.

If you want the middle option instead of full public, Friends only shows the posts to mutual follows and nobody else. If you are still choosing between all three, Everyone vs Friends vs Only you vs delete lays out what each one costs.
